In my current post, we need to talk to patients with cancer. Given how precious their time is, it is challenging to both secure access to their time and then use it for what is effectively research purposes which will help future cancer patients, but not necessarily their own – at least not in the short-term. I guess what I am saying is it is difficult to respectfully engage with people giving up their precious time to help us out whilst still doing the job which is to collect data. It’s more of an art than a science, this sort of approach. It’s not always in labs, computing data on spreadsheets, etc. This is real people, really living with cancer. And we need to be really prepared to honour their time.
