Witchcraft is a tricky term, and I use it as it means different things to different people, in different cultures. In my research it means the practice, or belief in magical skills, abilities, held either by one person, or a group of them. In reality in my research, this looks like ‘traditional healing’ (everything that does not involve a formally trained Dr) – so it could involve nailing a horse shoe above your bed to ward away headaches, going to your local church, or temple for advice, or it could involve you going down to your local Holland & Barrett’s for some St. Johns Wort to make yourself feel better. Obviously there are more extreme cases involving people being hurt, such as in Ghana, Romania, and even in London a few years back.
