• Question: Do you think that Unethical studies hold the best results?

      Some of them hold great results, but cause huge harm to participants. The most famous example would be from Nazi Germany – they furthered our understanding of so many different topics, but caused so much death and destruction. I hope that we don’t have to live through any more unethical studies going forward…

      Unethical studies would not get passed today. Although some have shown what were thought to be interesting results, now we know a lot of these studies had design problems as well, calling their results into question. So no, I don’t think they do. Also nobody should suffer in any way just to get results.

      I think they have some of the most well-known or exciting results, but not necessarily best. You really need to repeat the same study many times before you can have confidence in their findings. But unethical ones tend to just be stand-alone, they cannot get done again as they were so risky.

      No, but they are the ones people tend to associate with psychology as they are shocking (pun fully intended) and stick in our minds.
