Question: When working with people with mental health issues, how would you effectively communicate with them and ensure that you do not cause them distress?
We have to go through rigorous ethical approval, we’re trained in appropriate methods to deal with distressed people, my questions are worded in a way that should not cause more distress, plus there is common human decency in that I always make sure they feel well enough to go on, offer breaks, allow them to stop, and comfort them if they do get upset. I always make sure theyre well enough to go home at the end of the interview.
