I’ve always been on the same career path. I did, however, spend a year working full-time as a cleaner to fund my masters degree and voluntary research. I really don’t miss those early morning starts…
I initially went to Uni to study journalism and creative writing, with an eye on being a screenwriter. I then took a year out to work while I thought over what else I could do, and settled on psychology. Then I went to study psychology and on my first day my Mum got cancer and I panicked and deferred entry for a year – where my registration was just delayed by 12 months so I could start properly the next term. I spent the next year clinging to my Mum as closely as possible, before eventually picking up a degree in Psychology. Sort of been on track since then – but it has always meant being two years older than most people/two years behind.
